Canada is already recognized as a leader in Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) technology research and development. However, in the absence of strict greenhouse gas regulations or a high carbon price, carbon capture and storage is too expensive with little or no financial return. Carbon capture and conversion technologies, or “CarbonTech,” use CO2 to make valuable products, while preventing the CO2 from entering the atmosphere. There is an exciting opportunity for Canada to become a global CarbonTech leader and this emerging sector can scale to its potential as a trillion dollar global industry by 2030.
