CBSR is in the early stages of its journey with advancing Truth and Reconciliation. We recognize that we cannot realize our vision of a sustainable, prosperous, and socially just future in a generation without acknowledging and doing our part to address the ongoing impacts of colonialism on Indigenous Peoples.

As a national association committed to advancing social and environmental leadership in business, CBSR has a responsibility to support and enable reconciliation across Canada’s corporate sector. This work begins with truth.

We acknowledge the land on which we live, work, and convene has been stewarded by Indigenous Peoples since time immemorial. Their knowledge systems, governance models, and contributions have long been excluded by colonial economic systems; which has lasting consequences for our society.

CBSR affirms the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action 92, which outlines how the business community must respond. CBSR will commit to the following actions with our employees, board of directors and member network:

1. Education on the history and legacy of Residential Schools, Treaties, Indigenous Rights, sovereignty and self-determination, intercultural competency, conflict resolution, human rights and anti-racism.

2. Building respectful relationships with Indigenous Peoples, communities and organizations through meaningful engagement.

3. Supporting equitable access to employment, training, investment and long-term economic benefits for Indigenous Peoples.

4. Collaborate collectively with the broader Canadian business sector to support a successful future, together, for all generations.

CBSR is honoured to do this work and recognizes that reconciliation is an ongoing, collective effort. We will undertake this journey with humility, accountability, and honesty.
