Benefit from the Experience of Others

In speaking with sustainability practitioners across Canada, CBSR discovered that traditional business silos remain difficult audiences to engage with corporate responsibility themes and concepts. Launched in Spring 2016, CBSR Professional Network Group calls are designed to help corporate responsibility and sustainability practitioners build consensus and secure buy-in within their organizations.

Each CBSR Professional Network Group begins with an expert speaker providing a brief introduction and sharing personal insights on relevant sustainability best practices. Current groups include: human resources, marketing and communications, community engagement & investment and procurement. Following expert introductions, participant led conversations are facilitated by CBSR staff.

CBSR Professional Network Groups are held every second Tuesday from 1:30-2:30 PM EST, online using Cisco WebEx technology. CBSR Professional Network Group calls are free for all CBSR Members, and a nominal fee for non-members. Registration can be found at Eventbrite.

Human Resources

Human resources is the organizational function that deals with recruiting, managing, developing and motivating people, including providing functional and specialized support and systems for employee engagement. Human resource professionals have a key role to play to help a company achieve its corporate responsibility and sustainability objectives through reward structures, hiring practices, and motivation techniques.

Marketing and Communications

Marketing & communications professionals help develop brand awareness, translating product information into perceptions about a product’s attributes and its position within the larger marketplace. Marketing and communications professionals play a critical role in engaging both the public and employees within the organization in a company’s corporate responsibility and sustainability efforts.

Community Engagement & Investment

Community engagement and investment professionals engage in long-term, community partnerships to address social issues chosen to protect corporate interests and enhance reputation. This can involve financial contributions, in-kind donations, or employee volunteering. Community engagement and investment professionals play an important function by building and strengthening relationships with local communities in which they operate.

Procurement

Procurement is the act of finding, acquiring, buying goods, services or works from an external source, often through a tendering or competitive bidding process. Procurement professionals are responsible for ensuring products meet rigorous safety, quality, durability and compliance standards. Given that all products and services have an associated environmental footprint, procurement professionals can play a central role in helping an organization realize their corporate responsibility and sustainability objectives.
